We’re sitting down with our Marketing Manager, Kelly, to get a behind-the-scenes look at life at IndiCater – from her career journey and love for the hospitality industry, to her thoughts on food tech, favourite (sort of Italian) dishes, and the best advice she’s ever received.
Let’s get to know IndiCater’s Marketing Manager, Kelly Dillet a little better…
1. Can you tell us more about your role at IndiCater?
I’m the Marketing Manager here at IndiCater, and I’ve been with the team for just over a year now – and loving it.
Since joining, I’ve had the chance to get involved in everything from company strategy, brand positioning, to customer comms. One of the highlights has been working directly with clients on case studies and collaborating closely with Stuart Moore on our overall business development and marketing strategy. We’re both really passionate about the impact our product has, and we firmly believe that a forward-thinking, data-led approach is key to helping the hospitality industry thrive.
It’s been a brilliant first year, and I’m excited to keep building on that momentum!
2. What’s your connection to the hospitality industry?
Like a lot of people, one of my very first jobs was in hospitality, working behind the bar at a local pub. I absolutely loved it. Being behind the bar really helped build my confidence and set me up for so much of my career later on (who would have thought?!). I was lucky enough to have an amazing management team who took the time to mentor me and support my progression into more senior roles.
I earned my Personal Licence and Cellar Quality Award (which is definitely where my love of beer began!), and eventually took on the challenge of managing a nightlife venue with the same team. I spent over a decade helping to run three venues and absolutely loved the fast-paced, people-focused (and often chaotic!) world of hospitality. Running a restaurant on Mothering Sunday will humble anyone – for those running a foodservice operation during any national holiday… I salute you! You’re all heroes!
I’m really grateful for everything my time in hospitality gave me, and for the friendships I made along the way. It’s one of those industries that stays with you in the best possible way – and now, being back in it from a completely different angle, I’m feeling a good mix of nostalgia and excitement for what’s ahead in hospitality and food tech.
3. What do you love most about IndiCater?
I’ve worked in a few different B2B SaaS roles throughout my career, and I’ve always been drawn to challenger brands – the ones that have something truly special but aren’t shouting the loudest (yet!). That’s exactly what IndiCater is, and honestly, it’s a big part of why I love being here. There’s so much happening, so many opportunities, and being part of a great team makes it even better!
The resource, support and community we get from Volaris makes a massive difference. We benefit from the small, agile team feel, but we’ve got the added backing and extended expertise when we need it. Everyone’s genuinely enthusiastic about what we’re doing, and it’s always a bonus to see the product we’re working on actually make a difference for our clients.
4. What do you think the future holds for IndiCater, and how do you see yourself contributing?
Food tech is such an exciting space right now (IMHO!). There are so many opportunities to make an impact in the hospitality industry through technology, and it really feels like we’re only just scratching the surface. Hospitality has always been a tough and resilient industry – it has to be. It’s often one of the first to feel the effects during times of social or economic crisis, but it always finds a way to adapt and move forward. Seeing technology evolve alongside it, supporting that resilience, makes the future feel really exciting.
IndiCater is in a unique position. Thanks to the strong relationships we have with our clients, we’re helping to solve real problems. The open and honest feedback loop is a big part of what drives our success.
I’m really looking forward to helping shape how we grow and evolve with our clients – making sure we’re always listening, adapting, and innovating based on their real-world needs. I want to keep championing that client-first approach, ensuring that as we grow, we stay true to what’s made IndiCater so special.
5. And when you’re not building brand and messaging at IndiCater, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my partner, friends, and family. We’re all really close, so weekends usually involve some kind of get-together. My Dad’s an amazing cook and my Mum is the best host, so Sunday roasts at their place are pretty much a weekly tradition. You’ll often find us all there – including my brother’s family – with Super Sunday on in the background. We’re big sports fans – I’m still buzzing from Liverpool winning the league – and there will 100% be F1 on the TV during race weeks (and before you mention it, Hamilton is an 8-time world champion, and I won’t hear any different)!
Lately though, most of my spare time is going into renovating our home. It’s chaotic, stressful, and somehow I always end up with more paint on me than the actual walls, but we’re getting there! When I’m not up a ladder, I’m probably scrolling Pinterest for interior inspo and wondering how many plants is too many plants…

6. What’s your fav dish to cook or eat (or BOTH!)?
I have a confession to make… I’m not much of a foodie (sorry, guys)! If I didn’t have a nutrition-educated partner keeping me on track, I’d probably survive on a diet of coffee, cheese and chocolate (not together, of course)!
BUT, I doreally enjoy cooking for other people. My go-to is usually something Italian… although I’m not entirely sure how authentically Italian my cooking actually is! One thing I can guarantee, most things will be served with an unapologetically large amount of parmesan cheese!
7. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, and why does it stand out to you?
“Done is better than perfect.”
I’m a self-confessed recovering perfectionist, so when one of my first managers used to say this, I’d roll my eyes a little. I always thought if something wasn’t perfect, it probably wasn’t ready. But over time (and a few lengthy projects later!), I realised he was right.
Some progress is always better than none, and getting something out into the world – even if it’s not flawless – often opens the door for feedback, learning, and improvement. Now, I try to remind myself that it’s better to keep things moving than to get stuck overthinking everything. And funnily enough, I get a lot more done!
8. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in hospitality?
What are you waiting for?
Seriously – if it’s your first job, hospitality will teach you so much. The skills you pick up are completely transferable, no matter where your career takes you. You’ll build confidence, learn how to work with people, handle pressure, and probably walk away with a few lifelong friends (and great stories!).
And if you’re already in hospitality but thinking about leaving – ask yourself why. Yes, it can be tough, but there really aren’t many industries like it. The energy, the people, the sense of community… it’s hard to beat. That said, you don’t have to stay in the same role forever. There are so many directions you can take your career within hospitality, whether it’s tech, training, management, or something else entirely. You just have to be open to exploring it.
